Project Announcement: Robotic Inspection to Advance Maintenance and Sustainment – Phase II

The US Navy is partnering with industry and academia on a multi-phase CTMA initiative to demonstrate how automation and complementary innovative technologies can improve maintenance and sustainment for ship fleets to reduce repair down time and cost and improve time at sea. Specifically, it will determine whether a robotic crawler UT inspection solution can be used to meet existing inspection requirements and provide verified inspection results at less cost and expenditure of time. Phase II will build on the successes of Phase I and conduct a pilot study of a DDG class ship to test the capabilities of the UT technology on the surface of a DDG flight deck to determine its effectiveness and identify any capability gaps.
