Project Announcement: Improving Reliability and Maintainability of Communication Systems

The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state of the art in analysis, systems engineering and integration tools and processes needed to develop a new communication solution for a military vehicle driving simulator. The overall goal is to develop, integrate, and test a solution that will improve reliability and performance of, and reduce latency between, the simulator’s subsystems.

The industry partner will be asked to complete analysis of potential alternative communications systems, system design and test, and final integration of hardware and software using advanced systems engineering and integration tools and processes.  Specific objectives include:

  • Provide a streamlined, common approach to identify relevant hardware and software solutions, reducing the time and cost of delivering safe, reliable, and mission critical communication capabilities;
  • Provide a repeatable engineering process and toolset that results in more reliable integrated communication solutions that increase interoperability and reduce malfunctions and other maintenance issues; and
  • Ensure the final materiel solution allows for easier communications maintenance and sustainment through future drop-in part replacement and modular upgrades.
