Project Announcement: Developing Cold Spray Repair for Maintenance and Sustainment Environments

The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to establish the cold spray repair application, repair technique, and process standards specifically for use as an alternative to hexavalent chromium plating.

Since cold spray repair can build back worn surfaces to their nominal dimensions, it is believed to be a good alternative to traditional hexavalent chromium methods in maintenance and sustainment environments. An industry partner will need the capability to develop and evaluate a methodology for integrating cold spray into a specific maintenance environment. This industry partner will be asked to identify and document components to be used as candidates for this application.
