Improved Sustainment and Maintenance of Workload Tracking Tools

NCMS Project #: 142105

Problem: The Army has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on both General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) and the Logistics Modernization Program (LMP), and these systems have been fully deployed for over 10 years.  The systems have undergone various updates since full deployment; however, these systems were initially designed and deployed based on business processes and reporting requirements related to logistics management, maintenance and sustainment activities, financial management, and numerous other operational processes that existed 10+ years ago.  Industry and Communications Electronics Command (CECOM) need an innovative, cost effective solution to upgrade their systems, improve system reporting, clean up unreliable system data, and create more efficient business processes.

Benefit: This project will serve as a roadmap for other organizations using Systems Applications and Products (SAP)-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to follow when seeking to modernize their system configuration and reporting and enhance data for decision making around complex maintenance and sustainment centered business processes.  System configuration and reporting improvement efforts that can be shared with other government entities, such as the Department of the Navy, who are utilizing a similar SAP solution for their Navy Working Capital logistics-based businesses.

Solution/Approach: Working collaboratively with industry, CECOM seeks to advance and demonstrate a Workload Tracking Tool & Workforce Planning System in their G8 Organization to capture work requirements, manhours spent on various reimbursable efforts, and costs associated with supporting new customers with the development and sustainment of weapons systems and warfighter support systems.  These demonstrations will result in more accurate demand planning over the maintenance and sustainment of the Army’s industrial base and provide senior leaders with more reliable data for decisionmaking.
