Adoption of Emerging Commercial Technologies

NCMS Project #: 140993

Problem: Understanding how to best embrace emerging technologies and apply them successfully to DoD challenges without further exasperating current problems or driving up costs is a key consideration. In the end DoD, working with industry partners, requires a vision and strategy to understand the optimum means to employ and deploy these exciting and game changing technologies and properly address areas of public need.

Benefit: The overall intent of this initiative is to understand how to embrace technology improvements, commercially fielded and evolving, in IT and Logistics systems, as a means to demonstrate how improvements to Logistics systems and worldwide distribution networks will positively impact mission effectiveness. Industry will be better poised to propose and execute solutions for the DoD and commercial industry that will make vast amounts of information resulting from operations more organized and visible to those who use it to make decisions at all levels.

Solution/Approach: The overall objective of this initiative is to assess the capability of and understanding of proactively addressing the challenges associated in embracing evolving technologies and how they can be applied to the challenges faced by Headquarters Marine Corps Command, Control, Computers, and Communication (HQMC C4) and private industry. Although this project has applicability across the Service, a finite focus will allow for refined metrics that can measure effectiveness. It is expected that commercial industry, while participating in this event, will be able to share in the lessons learned and have an opportunity to apply them to non-defense challenges.
