Puget Sound Event Showcased Cutting-Edge Technologies

Bremerton, WA – The Kitsap Conference Center in Bremerton, Wash., buzzed with energy during the recent NCMS Technology Showcase with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF). Fifty-two exhibitors were joined by 950 attendees eager to learn about innovative maintenance and sustainment technologies and processes to increase efficiency, lower costs, and address workplace safety.

Matt Cady, PSNS & IMF product line director and innovation program manager, emphasized the importance of the event as he welcomed the exhibitors: “We need your technologies to address the near-peer threats!”

Attendees viewed demonstrations from a wide range of technology solutions, looking to evaluate whether they might be a good fit with the work they do. The live two-day event demonstrated once more that there is no better way to introduce new technology to support Navy modernization efforts.

Participating exhibitors agreed.

“Nothing beats having face-to-face discussions about the possible use cases of a new technology with users and potential users of the system,” said Glenn Astolfi, CEO of Atmospheric Plasma Solutions. “It was great finally being back at a CTMA event and get the opportunity to meet with so many maintenance and sustainment personnel.”

Throughout both days of the event, representatives of the exhibiting companies drew rapt attention from a wide range of shipyard personnel.

“The foot traffic and participation from the shipyard was much heavier than expected,” said Jason Hackerson with IR Technologies. “It was great to talk directly with the wrench turners and the welders in addition to the managers and supervisors.”

The need to resume mask wearing for Covid 19 precautions had little impact on the smooth execution of this latest Technology Showcase. Organizers and participants alike responded positively to the event.

“The Puget Sound Technology Showcase was a tremendous success of partnering between the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and industry leaders,” said Director of Enterprise Maintenance Technologies Steve McKee, from the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Materiel Readiness. “The discussions and engagements provide the basis for improvements across industries and within our maintenance communities…. This was another great example of how together we can transform the way we keep our systems ready.”
