The U.S. Army is partnering with industry and academia to evaluate tire degradation challenges over the life of the tire. Phases I & II focused on better understanding the causes of tire degradation during storage and developing a solution. Phase III expanded upon earlier work to improve the protection gained from spraying tires with a degradation-resistant coating. Phase IV will further explore the limits these coatings possess to protect the tire from the various aging mechanisms and a logical final step in the technology demonstration.
