NESTT Awards NCMS Member SurClean Inc. SBIR Contract

NCMS is pleased to announce that member company SurClean Inc. received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program contract in response to the ADAPT (Accelerated Delivery and Acquisition of Prototype Technologies) Naval Depot Modernization and Sustainment Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) N201-X02. The focus area pertains to Expeditionary Depot Capability (Command, Control, and Communications). ADAPT is one tool SurClean utilizes to support ongoing research and development activity to perfect laser ablation beam delivery systems. This effort will provide machine tools to modernize Navy maintenance depots.

Laser ablation is used to pre-clean prior to welding, mark products, and remove small amounts of materials in electronic manufacturing.

“Laser Ablation is a relatively new tool for fighting corrosion and removing paint from ships,” explains Susan Sprentall, Founder and President/CEO of SurClean. “It is a disruptive technology. It requires change and change in any organization is difficult to implement. Working with the Naval Enterprise Sustainment Technology Team (NESTT) validates our product and the applications provide a path for change improving ship readiness.”
