Digital Augmented Reality
The Digital Augmented Reality Transformation team at Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems in Orlando, FL produces augmented and mixed-reality experiences (AR and MR) that automate and enhance work instructions, inspections, maintenance, and sustainment. We create and provide work instructions, 3D overlays, work orders, database connectivity, and head-wearable AR interfaces from your existing source data. Examples of this include the USMC AR overlays and work instructions for the M2A1 heavy machine gun, the LAV25 real-time inspection system incorporating head wearables and external databases, and remote expert communications to allow for two-way, AR-enhanced video discussions with users in the field in a ‘you see what I see’ capability. The AR systems can run standalone, or on a private or shared network, to always use the latest AR procedures and communicate with external databases and Internet of Things devices. Our user interfaces include head wearable devices and tablet computers, and feature voice control, speech to text, text to speech, and gesture control. We have also produced manufacturing work instructions for the eCASS shipboard tester, the DDG engine controller, and F-35 components. Overlay of real-world objects are aligned with machine vision techniques, so fiducial marks are no longer needed. Bill of Material, Inspection Results, training performance can all be exported from the AR systems. Interaction with enterprise systems is a big step forward for AR systems, where they now can be used for control, for reporting, and to provide effective visibility into the data that is important for base operations.
Logistics Information System (LIS)
The Logistics Information System (LIS) is a cloud-enabled and device-agnostic solution that addresses the sustainment requirements of any structure or vehicle platform. LIS integrates interactive 3D models of the targeted platform with highly configurable user centric screens and workflows. LIS provides work instructions, tracks progress, and provides a guide around a ship in VR, as well as shows AR overlays to correspond to work instructions.
