Problem: To best manage the influx of information from approximately 51,000 telematic devices, the DoD Fleet Management Information System (FMIS), with its Defense Property Information System (DPAS), must improve its capability to attain, retain and report Vehicle Level Data (VLD) from the telematics to the Fleet Automotive Statistical Tool (FAST).

Benefit: Fleet tracking systems can create alerts based on mileage, engine use or time. This helps to develop an advanced vehicle maintenance schedule. Vehicles that are properly maintained and serviced will rarely develop mechanical problems that can delay the movement of goods. By coupling fuel, engine and fleet management into one seamless data package to be demonstrated in the project, fleet owners will see improved vehicle uptime and reduced costs through an effective Management Information System.

Solution/Approach: The objective of this project is to evaluate the capability to upload telematics data from multiple vehicle fuel management systems into a centralized data system (DPAS) for FAST reporting, Condition Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) analysis to support the decision-making processes for system acquisition, modernization, sustainment, and operations, and fuel management to reduce petroleum use.
