Project Announcement: Naval Additive Manufacturing Knowledge Delivery System (NAMKDS)

The U.S. Navy seeks industry support to develop a lifecycle management ecosystem that allows users to securely share verified Additive Manufacturing (AM) print files and related resources. It intends for this ecosystem to be a web-based platform that encompasses “all things AM,” including technical information, training, and users’ contributions of their own knowledge and experiences.

The Department of Defense (DoD) is presently experimenting with the use of AM for maintenance and sustainment at all levels, especially to produce replacement parts more quickly and at lower cost. However, few data packages are accessible on DoD and public domains, and the challenge of managing data rights and multiple, non-compatible 3D file formats further limits their availability. The Navy is interested in overcoming these limitations by establishing a permanent, web-based system to serve as a collaboration space and repository for data and institutional knowledge.

Those interested in participating in this project should contact Dana Ellis by April 30, 2018. We encourage participation of Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs), including Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) and Women’s Business Enterprises (WBEs).
