Project Announcement: Long Term Tire Storage – Phase III

Tire degradation causes maintenance and sustainment issues for numerous industries including tire manufacturers and distributors, auto dealers, farmers, bus lines, and truckers, as well as the Department of Defense.  Phases I and II of this project, research focused on better understanding the causes of tire degradation during storage and developing a solution.  Phase III expands upon earlier work to improve the protection gained from spraying tires with a degradation-resistant coating.  The durability of the coating to a range of environmental handling conditions will be assessed as well as the ability to improve the tire’s air retention over time and during use.
