Project Announcement: Innovative Carbon Fiber and Graphitic Foam Solutions – Phase III

The U.S. Army is partnering with industry and academia on a multi-phase CTMA initiative to develop synthetic graphite that meets cost and performance objectives for use in vehicle lithium-ion batteries. The goal of this phase will be to create prototype lithium-ion cells that will demonstrate the applicability of mesophase pitch-based synthetic graphite and graphitic foam and their potential to improve vehicle thermal management and battery performance.
