The U.S. Navy is partnering with industry and academia to validate advanced coating technologies developed specifically to mitigate the impacts of sand/dust and saltwater on specific aircraft engines. The initiative will simulate sustained engine operation in austere environments with sand/dust and saltwater ingestion. The goal is to evaluate coating technologies that will extend the operating range and scope of components and validate these technologies to TRL 6 for a specific class of engine and demonstrate applicability across a wider array of other engine platforms.
