PMS 555 Industry Day Launched a Collaboration between Industry and Government

On November 7, NCMS partnered with the Program Management Support (PMS) 555 team on an Industry Day to support the shipyard modernization efforts. Over 150 people, both PMS 555 personnel and representatives from companies with innovative technologies, came together to learn from each other how they can be part of designing the shipyard of the future.

Along with over 50 tabletop displays, participants were invited to listen to a panel discussion about the goals of the Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program (SIOP) including challenges, goals, timeline and more. But the highlight of the event may have been the keynote—Mission to Mars: An Exercise in Out-of-this-World Thinking followed by breakout sessions that covered:

  • Mechanical and Industrial Processes
  • Surface and Structural Repair Advancement
  • Centralized Real-Time Data and Reporting Systems
  • Supply and Distribution Innovations

“The PMS 555 leadership was blown away by the technologies they saw that could help with productivity and save millions of dollars,” said Debbie Lilu, CTMA Program Director with NCMS. “In the breakout sessions, there was a good exchange of ideas and everyone left with a lot of enthusiasm and a deeper understanding of how they might contribute towards the efforts.”
