Project Announcement: Battery Cell Deactivation for Improved Safety

The Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia to identify battery failure mechanisms, which could occur in-use or in storage, leading to cell failure. Once the failure mechanisms have been identified, techniques to mitigate the occurrence or severity of a failure event will be evaluated. Viability from a cost perspective, weighing maintenance and sustainment cost savings into the analysis, will be determined.
