NAVAIR Expeditionary Fluid Analysis Capability Evaluation

Condition-based maintenance (CBM) is a maintenance strategy that monitors the actual condition of the asset to decide what maintenance needs to be done. CBM dictates that maintenance should only be performed when certain indicators show signs of decreasing performance or upcoming failure. Improving overall lifecycle costs and reducing waste stream benefits the environment. A portable fluid analysis device bridges the gap between future online analysis systems and current laboratory-based analysis paradigms while facilitating a more effective fluid analysis protocol that can significantly impact fluid-related requisition and disposal costs.

NAVAIR will evaluate the Spectro Q5800 to enable a complete evaluation of the Q5800 capabilities as they relate to the Navy Oil Analysis Program (NOAP) requirements, and benchmark the accuracy and repeatability of measurements relative to Navy oil samples on a variety of Navy operational platforms, culminating in a recommendation regarding the fielding of Q5800 units.
