Integration of Locally Derived Model Based System Engineering Tools to Enterprise Product Lifecycle Management Systems

Problem: Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems are now widely used across industry and DOD and by implementing these procedures, the accessibility of accurate, timely and reusable data throughout the supply chain increases.  The next logical step to further join the various technical data sources across large complex organizations is to integrate the myriad of locally developed data sources and applications into the organization’s enterprise PLM so that further efficiencies and capabilities can be gained and shared across the organization.

Benefit: The completion of these tasks will serve as a roadmap for commercial industry to assess and evaluate how to best integrate distributed capabilities and technical data sets into enterprise-level product lifecycle management systems and reap the benefits of greatly expanded capability and streamlined process workflows across large, diverse, and global engineering partners.

Solution/Approach: A collaborative approach between industry, NAVAIR, COMFRC, and NCMS will work to develop a process to integrate NAVSIM as a locally derived MBSE capability into the global NAVAIR product lifecycle management system called AvPLM and optimize the current NAVSIM processes within AvPLM as well as utilize additional capabilities within the NAVSIM portfolio.  This effort will demonstrate the value of integrating Model Based Acquisition with downstream Engineering and Sustainment activities.
