Two New Members Join NCMS Board of Directors
Neal Orringer and A. Donald Steinman strengthen mission to develop and transition innovative technologies

The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) announced the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors today. The appointments of Neal Orringer, 3D Systems’ vice president of alliances and partnerships, and A. Donald Steinman, executive vice president and general manager, Product Knowledge, further enhance the NCMS commitment to bring government, industry and academic partners together to develop and transition innovative technologies in ways that improve the competitiveness of the U.S. industrial base.
“The NCMS Board is pleased to welcome Neal and Don to the leadership team,” said Lisa Strama, NCMS president and CEO. “The wealth of experience and extensive knowledge they bring, particularly in the defense and commercial sectors, is timely and will help the NCMS serve its world-class member organizations and stakeholder partners.”
Orringer oversees 3D Systems’ government-sponsored additive manufacturing technology development, with teams operating at both the Pennsylvania State University Center for Innovative Materials and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. Previously, he held several senior positions in the U.S. government, including the director of manufacturing for the Department of Defense (DoD) and co-manager of the White House Office of Manufacturing Policy, as part of the Secretary of Commerce’s core policy team. Orringer is the recipient of the Secretary of Defense Award for Excellence in 2013 and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Civilian Service Medal in 2012, the latter in recognition of his pioneering management and record of achievement.
Steinman has served as the executive vice president and senior product expert of Product Knowledge since March 2015 and was board-appointed as the general manager four months later directing all product strategy, planning and execution for the firm and its clients. He brings more than 20 years’ experience in product development and commercialization and is widely recognized as a leader in unconventional product strategy and delivery, holding key leadership positions at QinetiQ North America and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Northeast Technology Transfer Center.
The addition of Orringer and Steinman bring the NCMS board total to 11 members, including Board Chair Courtney Hill, CJ Consulting (GE Aviation retired); C.
