Manufacturing Management System for Aircraft Maintenance, Sustainment and Support

Most companies have plenty of data in their internal databases, but extracting the right information and translating it into actionable intelligence, is another matter altogether. The adoption of configuration management with a strong PLM backbone can increase collaboration throughout American industry and their suppliers, resulting in more streamlined processes across a product’s lifecycle. The Manufacturing Execution System (MES), SIMATIC IT solution, is a sophisticated, highly scalable MES that delivers multiple capabilities and allows one to combine production efficiency with quality and visibility, as well as production optimization, ultimately resulting in higher manufacturing responsiveness.

Utilizing the U.S. Navy’s Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) East as a surrogate for American manufacturing companies, the overall project objective will be to build on the substantial work accomplished through the earlier NCMS/CTMA projects. The common PLM backbone will enable the FRCs to share data, resources and manufacturing capabilities in an efficient configuration-managed environment through the lifecycle of their products. As the growing complexity and variation of markets is forcing manufacturers to rethink their source-make-deliver processes, results derived from this project will help mitigate many of the issues manufacturers face in today’s global economy.
