Since 1940, Johnson Gage has been the world-wide leader in Thread Inspection Technology and Inspection Systems for both simple and complex thread inspection applications. Designed in either a bench or portable version Johnson Gages are used wherever the older traditional Thread Ring Gage and Plug Gage are used. We understand that traditional GO and NOT GO Ring and Plug Gage inspection reliability can be compromised by thread size, location, and the undefined concept of perceptible drag. The direct reading design of a Johnson Gage eliminates virtually all random variations in the inspection process, and constant gaging pressure assures uniform results free of application inconsistency. Johnson Gages creates a substantial benefit on the manufacturing side as well. Optimal initial set-up, tooling control, measurement of key characteristics, and documentation of target dimensions simplify the ability to produce a cost-effective quality thread. Thread Inspection Technology

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION

The purpose of a Johnson Thread Inspection Gage is to provide dimensional inspection technology to verify a product screw thread assembly fit and function. The ultimate test of a threaded product is long term performance. A threaded assembly not only has to GO together but it must stay together under its engineered parameters and working conditions. Johnson Gage Inspection technology is employed wherever the older traditional Thread Ring Gage and Plug Gage are used. While a basic Thread Ring or Plug Gage can only verify assembly, they cannot assure conformance of thread characteristics such as Pitch Diameter, Thread Angle, or Lead. A Johnson Gage will provide an operator, inspection or evaluator the necessary dimensional information on Maximum Material size, Minimum Material size and Thread Characteristics. This information is critical to determine part integrity and ultimate assembly performance. Johnson Gage inspection technology is used for thread inspection applications between the simple pass/fail and accept/reject to critically identified parts and components. Gaging systems are designed in either a bench or portable version. External threads from the size of 0.086” up to 45.00” and Internal threads from .1900” up to 45.00” can be inspected. We have the ability to incorporate thread forms such as: UN, UNR, UNJ, Metric, Metric J, ISO, Tapered Threads, ACME, Buttress. System extensions provide inspection for runout and concentricity. Analog or Wireless digital indicators are available.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Traditional Thread Ring/Plug Gages do not provide a measured value.
Thread Ring/Plug Gages do not assist in thread manufacturing.
Gage tightness or looseness to determine acceptability is subjective, unreliable and not best practices.
Larger Thread Ring and Plug Gages are difficult to use.
