2020 Maintenance Innovation Challenge Accepting Submissions Now

The 2020 Maintenance Innovation Challenge (MIC) is the perfect venue to showcase revolutionary and evolutionary innovations to the DOD maintenance community.

The Military Services, Defense agencies, industry, and academia, are all actively pursuing innovative technologies and processes to improve maintenance capability, effectiveness, and efficiency. The objective of the MIC is to elicit and share unique, enhanced maintenance capabilities, to potentially elevate and expand sustainment innovation beyond new technology, to include value-added partnerships, resourcing strategies, business practices, processes, and other transformative capabilities that make maintenance more agile, effective, and affordable.

At the 2020 DOD Maintenance Symposium, six finalists (chosen prior to the event) will present their new technologies, processes, or business practices to the symposium audience during a breakout session. They will have ten minutes to present their technology and another five minutes to answer questions from the audience.

Attendees at this breakout session will select the MIC People’s Choice Award based on the presentations. Additionally, all who submit a qualifying abstract and quad-chart will be published in the increasingly popular MIC magazine.

Please submit abstracts that fall into the following categories:

  • Process
  • Techniques
  • Testing validation
  • Finance products methodology services
  • Workflows

Once again, the MIC is stepping up its game for the 2020 DOD Maintenance Symposium. In addition to the overall MIC winner receiving high profile DOD-wide recognition during a plenary session and a striking trophy, NCMS has committed to support the demonstration of the winner’s innovation in a selected DOD activity by providing $50,000 to the commercial technology provider and in-kind labor necessary to administer the demonstration under the CTMA Cooperative Agreement. This generous offer provides a boost toward rapid evaluation and potential DOD-wide transition of the winning entrant’s maintenance innovation.

Abstracts are encouraged from both government and industry. Submission deadline is Friday, October 2, 2020. To read full competition details or to submit an abstract for the MIC, visit competition.ncms.org.
