 VALMT Project Cited as Example of NCMS Collaboration in Automotive Engineering Online

The VALMT project team pioneered an innovative process in establishing a new methodology in volumetric error compensation for large machine tools. The costs for current assembly practices of measuring and fitting are substantial; reducing the amount of reworking required on parts during onsite vehicle assembly will save the DoD and the commercial aircraft industry millions of dollars. More

Emerging Project- IUID Marking for Legacy Parts – Navy Pilot

NCMS is forming a new project, IUID Marking for Legacy Parts – Navy Pilot, to automate much of the non-recurring engineering required for legacy parts to conform to a DoD mandate that all parts worth more $5000 receive an Item Unique Identifier (IUID) mark. Legacy parts will be marked as they are processed during maintenance cycles, and this project will help collect the necessary information for this process. More

Dulchinos Appointed to the Robotics Technology Consortium Board of Directors

The RTC announced the appointment of Mr. John Dulchinos, President and CEO of Adept Technology, Inc., to the RTC Board of Directors. The RTC was formed in 2008 to speed the development and deployment of ground robotics technology for the Department of Defense (DoD) and has over 160 members. It has awarded $40M in project funding for ground robotics. More

Sustainable LED Lighting Product Design Guide Launched

NCMS partnered with Ilumisys on a U.S. Department of Energy-sponsored project to quantify the environmental impacts of LED lamps, incandescent lamps and fluorescent benchmark lamps over a product lifecycle, based on operational and durability testing of a variety of lighting products. An interactive Sustainable LED Lighting Product Design Guide to aid designers is now available. More
