NCMS Welcomes New Member GasTOPS

GasTOPS Inc. (GTI) is a US majority owned small business headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama specializing in application of advanced products and services for machinery condition assessment and Condition Based Maintenance to improve operational effectiveness. GTI is partnered with GasTOPS LTD developer of innovative fluid sensing and analysis systems utilized on and in support of Pratt and Whitney (P&W) F119, F135 and Geared Turbo Fan (GTF) engines.  Utilizing an established expertise of machinery analysis, modeling and simulation, software engineering, condition monitoring and repair and overhaul, GasTOPS provides a range of specialized technical and engineering services to assist in the design, development and in-service support of machinery control, monitoring and maintenance systems.

Condition Assessment Services

GasTOPS offers a different perspective on condition assessment for our client’s mission critical dynamic components including engines, transmissions, drive shafts and rotor heads.  Our processes provide critical situational awareness to any equipment degradation event.  Our Condition Assessment tools and services not only provide accurate and timely results for maintenance and operations organizations to proactively resolve equipment degradation, but also form the backbone for our condition-based maintenance program development, assessment and execution capabilities.  We provide both on-site services as well as long term condition monitoring services.

Maintenance Support Tools

GasTOPS has applied leading technology to support depot maintenance activities by providing a suite of products and services to thoroughly assess the health and capability of oil wetted components in critical equipment as well as applying new technology to legacy processes.

MetalSCAN.  Use of ODM (oil debris monitor) on test stands to troubleshoot problems on arrival (run the component with the ODM on board to isolate problems) and to validate a clean build on final test (evidence of no debris in the component before it is released).  ODM is also valuable to monitor critical test cells themselves.  ODM on test stands are used today at AFRL, SASA SFF (F135 test rig), Daimler Benz, Rolls Royce, P&W, Vector Aerospace, MTU, John Deere, Bosch, Honda and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).

FilterCHECK.  Use of filter debris analyses (FDA) in the shop laboratory to confirm clean build or to analyze customer filters from the field as a service/value enhancement to customers.  FilterCHECK is deployed by US Navy, RCAF, Australian MOD, New Zealand MOD, P&W (GP7200).

ChipCHECK.  Use of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to analyze chip detector debris to confirm alloys present (traceable to component metallurgy) both in the laboratory or at line as a value enhancement.  This is key as the chip detectors are notorious for generating false positives and leaving operators without a clear decision path.

Laser Alignment.  GasTOPS has designed laser alignment systems for the CH124 Sea King and the Bell 412/CH146 Griffon removing subjectivity, quantifying alignment results, and increasing technician efficiency.
