NCMS Partner Company Universal Synaptics Voted as the Winner of the 2012 “Great Ideas” Competition at the Department of Defense Maintenance Symposium

The aim of the annual “Great Ideas” Competition is to provide a forum for the sharing of the most effective and leading edge innovations in maintenance technologies and processes. Six finalists had been selected to present their “Great Idea” at the Symposium. Each finalist had just 15 minutes to make the case as to why they should be chosen as the best of the “Great Ideas” participants.

The “Intermittent Fault Detection & Isolation System (IFDIS) – Expanding Role within the DoD Maintenance Enterprise” presented by Universal Synaptics was voted the Winner of the 2012 “Great Ideas” Competition.

This is the second “Great Ideas” win for Universal Synaptics and the IFDIS. The first win came in 2010, that presentation focused on the innovative and advanced technology contained in the IFDIS and an initial United States Air Force (USAF) case study that produced a 25 times return on investment and tripled the reliability of F-16 Radar components.

The IFDIS has now successfully demonstrated its effectiveness on 31 different case studies, the 2012 winning presentation focused on the expansion of the IFDIS across the Department of Defense and highlighted a few of those success stories.

The forward movement within the Department of Defense and selection of IFDIS as a two-time “Great Ideas” Winner speaks to the hardworking and dedicated individuals at Ogden Air Logistics Complex (OO-ALC), Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRC SW), Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRC SE), the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) Commercial Technologies for Maintenance Activities (CTMA) Program, Universal Synaptics and Total Quality Systems (TQS).
