A not-for-profit consortium itself, NCMS has significant experience guiding the development of and managing new consortia for manufacturing, technology growth, and innovation steering. Using the proven, award-winning NCMS collaboration model as a base, we are able to spin up new consortia far faster than many other consortium management organizations, and provide additional services and options for the new consortium to ensure that its growth follows the vision of its founders.
The Robotics Technology Consortium (RTC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NCMS, is a prime example of consortium management. With ground robotics increasingly recognized as one of the key technologies of the future, the RTC was created to improve the U.S. Department of Defense’s ground robotics technology acquisition process and investment planning and acts as a facilitator for all of DoD’s joint ground robotics research programs.
NCMS was selected as the administrative agent of the RTC in March of 2008, less than two months later they were up and running with 50 members and an executed Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) with a $170M ceiling. Because NCMS is already closely tied to DoD and Federal Procurement, our team created the necessary connections for small, non-traditional robotics developers to link in directly with Federal funding opportunities. RTC membership doubled within the first year and now has close to 200 members. It is a fully-funded, rapidly growing consortium that leads the way in defense robotics development.
