A Strategic Interest Group, or SIG, is a special task force formed by NCMS to target a specific technology impact area. SIGs are guiding teams interested in collaborating to define the future of certain innovations and technologies in a way that ensures optimal adoption and commercialization. Like a steering committee, SIGs are visionary, and composed of individuals who can take advantage of the immense NCMS network of innovators and our collaboration model to help truly define tomorrow’s technologies.
- SIGs operate under the guidance of a NCMS program manager
- Retain their own mission, objectives and organizational structure (subject to the compliance requirements of 501(c)(3) IRS regulations)
- SIGs are responsible for developing a long-range plan in its focused area by defining needs, recommending projects for funding, and overseeing the administration and progress of funded research
The benefits of SIGs are both national and company-specific. From a broad perspective, academic and other research institutions are able to more clearly understand industry needs and at the same time the collective voice of NCMS provides credibility, objectivity and specificity to research requirements. Member companies will also more clearly understand the market for such technology which will benefit them in terms of timing and specific knowledge. The SIG provides members the forum for discussing research needs and offering proposed solutions as well as managing the research. Why join a SIG at NCMS? For the three Cs…
- Engage in Conversation about a specific technology or innovation
- Collaborate with like-minded, cross-industry partners with the same interests
- Act as the Compass that will guide the future of the technology
