NCMS held its Digital Manufacturing Strategic Interest Group (DM SIG) Winter Meeting on Feb 5, 2013 at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), a Xerox Company. 24 SIG members were in attendance for one day event. The interactive and constructive meeting centered on the following discussion topics:
- MI PIC’s three concepts: Capabilities, Outreach and Engagements
- DM SIG is getting a lot of buzz, we have longevity and need to brand ourselves
- MI blueprint for our National Strategy – we are looking to replicate MI in other areas and are currently exploring MA, VA and the west coast
- DM Web Development, Requirements and Applications
- Business Model for DM Website – Subscription vs A La Carte
- Education and Training – both on virtual site and PIC facility
- Two SIG sub-committees are established and gaining traction with goals and actions items for 2013:
- Education and Certification
- Marketing and Outreach
Moving Forward:
NCMS goals align with SIG members and we have a path to achieving those goals and seeing the results. In the next 6 months, MI PIC will be open, our website will be established and projects will be underway. SIG members are clear with what we want to achieve in the next 6 months to a year:
- Comprehensive and holistic projects that see results – projects meaning accessibility, training and implementing
- SIG roles – SIG owns specific projects and is responsible for getting the funding
- Define Software/Hardware Constellations that can be recommended to small and medium size manufacturing companies
- Crafting case studies that resonate with small and medium size manufacturing companies that need HPC and SIG members being a part of that story.
Presentations, meeting notes and a member contact list from the meeting are available in the Digital Manufacturing SIG group on the NCMS Member Website.
