NCMS recently presented its strategy to help revitalize American small and mid-sized manufacturers through advanced computer digital manufacturing during an event held in collaboration with Intersect360 Research and key industry players such as Microsoft and Intel in the Alliance for High Performance Digital Manufacturing (AHPDM), at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Center in Washington, DC.

Jon Riley, Executive Director of Design & Engineering Programs, discusses the plan to develop a National Innovation Network of high performance computing centers that would give the 300,000 small and medium-sized manufacturers access to digital manufacturing technologies.

Wired for War – What happens when science fiction becomes battlefield reality?" – Peter Warren Singer, Senior Fellow and Director, 21st Century Defense Initiative, Brookings Institution.

 The widespread military use of robots has broad implication for manufacturers.

Peter Warren Singer is Senior Fellow and Director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative at the Brookings Institution. He is the youngest scholar named Senior Fellow in Brookings' 90-year history. In 2005, CNN named him to their "New Guard" List of the Next Generation of Newsmakers. Singer has also been recognized by the Financial Times as "Guru of the Week" for the thinker that most influenced the world that week and by Slate Magazine for "Quote of the Day." In his personal capacity, Singer served as coordinator of the Obama-08 campaigns’ defense policy task force.

Dr. Singer is considered one of the world's leading experts on changes in 21st Century warfare. He has written for the full range of major media and journals, including the Boston Globe, L.A. Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, Current History, Survival, International Security, Parameters, Weltpolitik, and the World Policy Journal. Michigan Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-MI) discusses manufacturing in Michigan and the role government plays in fostering innovation.

Elected to Congress in 1992, Knollenberg is the ranking member on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and  Housing and Urban Development. Knollenberg is one of the auto industry's most effective advocates in Congress. He has fought to rescind costly steel tariffs that drive up the cost of auto manufacturing for The Big Three and their suppliers. In the 110th Congress, Knollenberg is working to promote alternative fuels as a means to reduce America's dependence on Middle East oil and to prevent job-killing increases in federal fuel economy regulations.
