NCMS stands shoulder to shoulder with North American companies who are in the business of making things. We believe that manufacturing is still a valuable sector in which to invest, and our role is to enhance their competitiveness in the global market by guiding their innovations, their initiatives, and their vision for the future of manufacturing. Our members create the planes that fly overhead, the cars that drive on our streets and the goods that improve our lives.
We bring together companies that share common problems and needs, driving a collaborative process that realizes innovation faster and with less risk than traditional “go it alone” R&D. As a neutral, impartial third party, NCMS is able to manage collaborative research projects, protect intellectual property, and ensure that funding is properly allocated and applied.
Collaboration is not as simple as two or more organizations sitting down and trying to work together. There are right ways and wrong ways to do it. The NCMS collaborative model has proven so successful because we are experts in effective cross-industry collaboration.
Though NCMS’s founding mission was to provide project management for collaborative R&D (something we still do – a lot), the organization has evolved with manufacturers and now provides products, services, and initiatives designed to further the overall goal of improving competitiveness in the global market.
NCMS is a driving force in several high-tech initiatives that we believe will help define the future of manufacturing in North America:
Technology is exciting, but it isn’t enough. You have to make things for technology to really improve our lives. After all, what good would the personal computer be if no one bothered to mass-produce it? By managing the projects that drive technological innovation and understanding the need to commercialize those innovations, NCMS helps realize manufacturing’s future.
When NCMS was founded in 1986, North American manufacturers were facing a serious threat from overseas. By driving new innovation and ensuring that collaborations were performed correctly, we helped stabilize manufacturing and respond appropriately to the global competition.
But it’s not 1986 any more, and North American manufacturing is again in trouble. Outsourcing, lack of ambitious innovation, and economic downturn have all contributed to a manufacturing landscape that needs help. By joining NCMS, you’ll become part of a collaborative entity that is determined to restore the excellence of North American manufacturing, and have access to our immense alliance network to improve your own business opportunities.
NCMS is about helping manufacturers – and related industries – get competitive and stay competitive. It’s what we do. Because the future of the U.S. is not made, it is manufactured.
