May 24, 2012. The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences announced today that it has completed a six-year, $3.3M collaborative program under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), known as The Sustainable Product Initiative (SPI). The tools developed by NCMS and its partners during this highly successful program utilizing leading-edge life cycle thinking methodologies will be presented during a Sustainable Design and Manufacturing Roundtable on June 12th, 2012.
May 18, 2012. The Brookings Institution, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, recently released a report on geographic trends in American manufacturing. The group’s follow-up commentary notes that manufacturing is spreading out well beyond the “traditional” presumed locations in the United States, and that we are seeing a lot of manufacturers gravitating towards one another geographically.
May 18, 2012. NCMS will host an executive roundtable where leading industry, academia and government experts will share their perspectives on green design and manufacturing. The highlight of the event will be three dynamic panels addressing key challenges faced by manufacturers integrating sustainability into their products.
May 16, 2012. The Digital Manufacturing Strategic Interest Group (DM SIG) is the collaborative vehicle to bring action to the Digital Manufacturing vision. Over the past year, the DM SIG continues to move forward discussing and implementing the strategies at the intersection of exploration and innovation within digital manufacturing.

May 4, 2012. I love my iPad, which has now almost completely replaced my laptop for most applications. However, its lack of a physical keyboard can at times be limiting. Sometimes I need a keyboard.
May 2, 2012. People aren’t inherently resistant to change unless they fear – rationally or otherwise – that a change is going to negatively impact them. Dentists didn’t rise up against the electric toothbrush, because even though it’s a “better” approach to tooth-cleaning, it wasn’t going to put any dentists out of business. Meanwhile there’s a lot of resistance against, say, aggressive adoption of new energy sources.
