…The potential collapse of the domestic auto industry casts a grim light on the auto show this year. The automakers face a new challenge: introducing new products while convincing the public that they'll be around to build those products.
Rick Jarman, president of Ann Arbor-based National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, said the industry needs to focus not on far-out concept cars but realistic innovation.
"What I would hope to see is the best in innovation at an affordable price," Jarman said. "I want to see the best innovation along with a good business plan that tells me how we're going to get to that."
