Project Category: Condition and Prognosis Based Maintenance.
Phase I of the Electrical Wiring Integrity Systems Program (EWIS) demonstrated the potential that can be realized by effective wire testing and maintenance. The EWIS results have resulted in success at each of the participant sites. However, as the expeditionary demand on military aircraft increases and the life cycle of these aircraft are extended, the need to effectively implement wiring integrity programs to maintain the health of these aircraft also increases. Quick identification of faulty wire paths and in locating the fault will provide improved repair time and increased mission readiness.
Phase II of this program will focus on moving aircraft maintenance from a reactive to a proactive posture. This transition will be accomplished by providing aircraft maintainers with the necessary inspection test protocols and processes to implement the EWIS technology effectively into a Phased Depot Maintenance environment. Establishing an effective wiring health monitoring and maintenance program for military aircraft will provide a viable insight into the degradation of aircraft wiring.
Current industry participants are Eclypse International, Boeing, and Aging Aircraft Consultants, Inc.
