The NCMS Lean Product Development Initiative (LPDI) is a program to advance and deploy a knowledge-based product development paradigm that can help companies realize a 400 percent increase in development productivity. Incorporating a different set of principles than the broadly practiced lean-manufacturing concepts, LPD, creates a whole new framework for approaching the development function. It relies on a knowledge-based, rather than a control-based, perspective. Where lean-manufacturing practices involve reducing waste with regard to inventory and labor, LPDI considers the most significant waste to be any loss of knowledge.

NCMS uses the Operationally Critical Threat, Asset, Vulnerability Evaluation method and similar comprehensive models to perform vulnerability evaluation. However, unlike standard OCTAVE implementation, which is self-directed, NCMS utilizes the expertise of our personnel to facilitate the process, saving valuable time and resources — and delivering better results.

 

The sharing of information is central to our mission at NCMS. Clients can receive anti-trust protection (under the National Cooperative Research and Production Act), while retaining all of the intellectual property rights to the technology developed during the project.
